"World's Largest Spring-Fed Swimming Pool in West Texas"

About This Location

Balmorhea State Park is home to the world's largest spring-fed swimming pool — a 1.75-acre, 25-foot-deep natural oasis fed by San Solomon Springs at a constant 22–26 million gallons per day. The crystal-clear 72–76°F water is home to two endangered fish species and is a certified scuba diving site. Located in the Chihuahuan Desert two hours north of Big Bend, it's one of the most unexpected and magical swimming experiences in the country.

History

San Solomon Springs has sustained life in the Chihuahuan Desert for thousands of years, used by the Mescalero Apache and earlier peoples. The pool was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1935 and 1941 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Absolutely worth the drive

Balmorhea State Park exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.

Great soak, busy on weekends

Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
