"Soak Under the Northern Lights"
Chena Hot Springs Resort is Alaska's most famous hot springs destination — 60 miles east of Fairbanks in the wilderness of interior Alaska. The resort offers year-round soaking in an outdoor rock lake fed by 106°F geothermal water, with the extraordinary possibility of watching the aurora borealis dance overhead while you soak. The resort is also a leader in geothermal energy, powering itself entirely from the hot spring.
Discovered by gold prospectors in 1905, Chena was developed as a resort in the 1960s. Today it's a 440-acre property that has become a model for sustainable geothermal energy use, generating all its electricity from the hot spring water.
Outdoor geothermal lake, the signature experience
Indoor option for extreme cold days
Private hot tub rentals with aurora viewing windows
Book the 'Aurora Alert' service — staff will wake you at 2 AM when the lights appear. The outdoor rock lake at -20°F with aurora overhead is a life-changing experience.
Chena Hot Springs Resort exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.
Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
