"Ancient healing waters deep in Olympic National Park's old-growth rainforest."

About This Location

Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort is one of the most magical hot springs destinations in the Pacific Northwest, located deep within Olympic National Park's temperate rainforest. The Quileute people called these springs 'Sol Duc' — meaning 'sparkling water' — and considered them sacred healing waters. Three natural mineral soaking pools and a freshwater pool are surrounded by some of the most spectacular old-growth forest in North America, with 300-year-old Douglas fir and western red cedar towering overhead.

History

The Quileute and Klallam peoples used Sol Duc's waters for healing for thousands of years. A grand resort hotel was built here in 1912 but burned down in 1916. The NPS took over management when Olympic National Park was established in 1938, and the current resort has operated since the 1950s.

Insider Tip

The drive into Sol Duc through the Hoh Rainforest is itself worth the trip. The pools are at their most atmospheric on misty mornings when fog drifts through the old-growth canopy. The Sol Duc Falls trail (1.6 miles round trip) is one of the most beautiful short hikes in the Pacific Northwest — do it before your soak.

Absolutely worth the drive

Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.

Great soak, busy on weekends

Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
