Bagby Hot Springs
Oregon's most beloved backcountry hot springs — hand-hewn cedar tubs deep in the Mt. Hood National Forest.
"Clothing-Optional Retreat in the Oregon Cascades"
Breitenbush Hot Springs is a worker-owned cooperative retreat center deep in the Willamette National Forest of the Oregon Cascades. The property features multiple pools — including meadow pools, forest pools, and a sacred stone circle — all fed by geothermal springs. The retreat is clothing-optional throughout and emphasizes holistic wellness, yoga, and connection with nature.
Developed as a resort in the 1920s, Breitenbush was purchased by its workers in 1977 and reorganized as a cooperative. The community generates all its electricity and heat from the geothermal springs, making it one of the most sustainable resorts in the Pacific Northwest.
Open meadow setting, multiple pools at varying temps
Secluded pool in old-growth forest
Ceremonial pool within a stone circle
Book a midweek retreat package — the property is dramatically less crowded Mon–Thu and the forest pools feel completely private.
Breitenbush Hot Springs exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.
Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
