Clifftop Hot Springs Over the Pacific Ocean
"Sierra Nevada Hot Springs in the John Muir Wilderness"
Mono Hot Springs sits at 6,900 feet in the Sierra Nevada, accessible via a winding mountain road through the John Muir Wilderness. The resort offers a combination of developed pools and wild, undeveloped springs along the San Joaquin River. The setting — granite peaks, clear mountain air, and the sound of rushing water — makes this one of California's most scenic soaking destinations.
The springs were used by the Western Mono people for centuries. A small resort has operated here since the 1930s, maintaining a rustic character that feels unchanged from the mid-20th century.

Undeveloped natural springs upstream, free access
Hike 0.5 miles upstream from the resort to find completely undeveloped, free natural pools — often empty even on busy weekends.
Mono Hot Springs exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.
Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
