Clifftop Hot Springs Over the Pacific Ocean
"Free wild hot springs with stunning views of the Eastern Sierra Nevada — no crowds, no fees."
Travertine Hot Springs is one of California's most beautiful and accessible free wild hot springs, located just outside the small ranching town of Bridgeport in the Eastern Sierra. Three natural pools cascade down a hillside of white travertine mineral deposits, offering stunning panoramic views of the Bridgeport Valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The springs are managed by the BLM and are free to visit year-round.
The travertine formations at this site have been building for thousands of years as calcium carbonate-rich water surfaces and deposits minerals as it cools. Native Paiute people used these springs for centuries before European settlers arrived. The BLM has managed the site since the 1970s.
The hottest pool, closest to the source spring. Small and intimate with the best Sierra views.
The most popular pool — comfortable soaking temperature with panoramic views of the Bridgeport Valley.
Largest and coolest pool, great for longer soaks. Built from natural travertine rock formations.
Sunrise and sunset are absolutely magical here — the light on the Sierra peaks with steam rising from the pools is unforgettable. Clothing is optional by local custom. The road is dirt but passable for most vehicles. Bring water and pack out all trash — there are no facilities.
Travertine Hot Springs exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.
Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
