"Ancient Volcanic Hot Springs in Red Rock Canyon"
The Jemez Mountains of New Mexico are a volcanic hotbed, and Jemez Springs sits at the heart of this geothermal activity. The canyon walls of red and orange volcanic rock frame a series of natural and developed hot springs. The Jemez River runs alongside, and the small village has a collection of bathhouses, a Benedictine monastery, and access to Valles Caldera National Preserve.
The Jemez Pueblo people have lived in this canyon for over 700 years. The volcanic hot springs were central to their culture and healing practices. Spanish missionaries arrived in the 1600s, and the ruins of their mission church still stand in the village.

Drive 12 miles north to Valles Caldera National Preserve — the collapsed supervolcano crater is one of the most otherworldly landscapes in the Southwest.
Jemez Springs Hot Springs exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.
Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
