"The World's Largest Mineral Hot Spring — Free to Soak"
Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis, Wyoming contains the world's largest mineral hot spring, producing 8,000 gallons of 135°F water per minute. By treaty with the Shoshone and Arapaho tribes, a portion of the spring must remain free to the public in perpetuity — making this one of the only places in the world where you can soak in a world-class hot spring for free. The park also features dramatic travertine terraces and a bison herd.
The Shoshone and Arapaho tribes ceded the springs to the US government in 1896 on the condition that the waters remain free to all people forever. The state park was established in 1897, and the free bathing covenant has been honored ever since.

The free State Bath House is genuinely excellent — clean, well-maintained, and fed by the same world-class spring as the paid facilities. Arrive early on weekends.
Thermopolis Hot Springs State Park exceeded every expectation. The water temperature was perfect and the setting is stunning. We arrived early to beat the crowds — highly recommend doing the same.
Loved the mineral pools and the views. It does get crowded on Saturday afternoons so try to go mid-week if you can. Staff was friendly and the facilities were clean.
